Meet Robert Freishtat, MD, MPH

Robert J. Freishtat, MD, MPH, is currently the Chief of Emergency Medicine at Children’s National and Professor of Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine and Genomics and Precision Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He is the principal investigator for international collaboratives studying injury/repair in the lung and systems biology investigations in obesity. He has authored or co-authored over 100 articles and book chapters in the fields of lung injury, asthma, obesity and emergency medicine.

Dr. Freishtat has three boys, ages 6, 15 and 17, who he spends most of his free time chauffering around. He and his wife adopted their youngest son, Luke, from Haiti. “He is an amazing, funny kid who we are proud to have as part of our family now. He learned very quickly how much fun it is to be a little brother and bother his big brothers,” says Dr. Freishtat.
