Gerard Gioia
NEUROPSYCHOLOGIST

Meet Gerard Gioia, PhD

Gerard Gioia, PhD, is the Division Chief of Neuropsychology and the director of the Safe Concussion Outcome, Recovery & Education (SCORE) Program at Children’s National. He treats people with brain injuries with dual areas of interest in disorders involving the executive functions and pediatric concussion/mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). Dr. Gioia has developed several smartphone apps, and he works closely with the CDC on their “Heads Up” concussion educational programs, as a contributing author to their toolkits.

Dr. Gioia is a big sports fan who enjoys watching sports from youth leagues to the pros. Although he no longer plays sports like he used to, he enjoys biking, kayaking and going down to the shore. Dr. Gioia and his wife have three adult children (ages 29, 27 and 24), one of whom is a clinical research coordinator at Children’s National. Fun fact: Dr. Gioia only wears sports-related ties.

“I thoroughly enjoy watching kids grow and prosper in all ways, and being able to facilitate that process with kids and families that need some extra help is very rewarding.”
